Will your New Year's Resolutions fail tomorrow?
New Year's Resolutions are great in theory. In practice though what tended to work during holiday times usually fall by the wayside on the first day back at work following the holiday season.
And the reason is simple
ROUTINE
other wise known as habits.
If you have not managed to imprint the changes you want / need to make on your sub-conscious BEFORE you go back to work, routine will get in the way and before you know it, Easter will be here and - New Year's Resolutions? What New Year's Resolutions......
So how do you ensure your New Year's Resolutions don't fall by the wayside?
Well the only way I know that is guaranteed to work, is to diarise everything that is out of the ordinary. Make appointments with yourself to do whatever it is - and then keep your appointments. Make sure you find time to do the:
* grocery shopping so you can't be tempted to pick up fast food on the way home
* gym - pack your bag the night before and put it into the car
* walk before breakfast - set your alarm clock and then when it goes off - get up, get dressed and get going
Or whatever is on your list.
You need to find time to create the new habits. Unfortunately a few days at the end of each year / start of the new year - when we are away from our normal routines is not a long enough timespan. So you do need to find time in amongst the routine to create the new habits. Does your working schedule allow you to do that? What changes do you need to make?
The other thing I will say about succeeding in making the necessary changes to your lives is this:
Perhaps the best way to make sure your changes are implemented is to be happy about what you are trying to do. But there is a much better reason than just having a positive mental attitude towards yourself and that is
"A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort"
Herm Albright
Especially when they can see you succeeding - and they have failed - yet again.
