When you just don't want to

When you don't want to do something, when you are being "forced" to do something you don't want to do, you will obstruct / delay / deny / make excuses as to why you can't do that right now.

Truth is - we can all be a little childish when we need to find motivation for something we don't like, which is why it can be hard to overcome the procrastination habit.

"Shan't"
"Can't"
"Don't want to"

If you know you can't get out of doing "it" whatever it is - tell yourself you will do something towards "it" for just 30 minutes. It's a well proven technique. And one I go into in more detail in the section on Study Motivation.

But one more thing before I let you go for tonight.

If what you are procrastinating over are your own goals / dreams / targets I need you to do a rethink. Are they YOUR goals or are they something your family / friends / boss / coworkers said you should do? We can mistake other people's goals as our own you know.

So - pen and paper time - yes homework for a Friday night:

Re-visit your goals.

If you took one of your goal items and had to explain to someone

a) why you haven't achieved it yet - what kind of excuses would you use?

b) what would your life be like after you have achieved that goal? Can you "see" what your life will look like / be like? It's important you can otherwise it will always be at the back of your mind, but never comes into focus. We know it's there - but we're not quite sure of the details. Today I would like you to focus on the details. Regarding your goal - what does it really look like? What can you smell? What can you feel / touch? What do you hear? Spend some time (half an hour is a good time to devote to this task) and work on the details.

With many thoughts

Study Motivation:

When it comes to finding motivation to study, the thought of hour after endless hour of reading, taking notes and answering test questions can hardly be deemed to be very exciting can it?!
Believe it or not, that is not the best way to study. There is ample evidence to prove that to study effectively, you need to work in half hour blocks of time.
