Mindful influence

"When people will not weed their own minds, they are apt to be overrun with nettles"
Horace Walpole (1717-1797)

Never underestimate the power of influence, especially with regards to your mind.

What are you saying?

Have you stopped to consider - what is coming out of your mouth is in direct relation to what you are:

a) putting into your mind
b) telling yourself
c) listening to when other people insist on giving you advice

Let me explain.

I caught the first episode of a reality TV show on Friday. I don't watch much television, let alone reality television - but it was there and I thought why not - I can see why the tabloids love her - the whingeing, the whining, the antics and the carry on - perfect fodder for every newspaper and magazine who thrive on passing on gossip. Negativity oozed from her every word. I hope to goodness you don't ever watch the program, or programs like it because they can and do influence what we talk about. Am I saying don't watch reality TV shows or crime shows or any other program that has negativity as its dialogue and story line - in a word - YES - actually it's up to you - all I can ask is you be careful to put things into perspective.

The second point - about what you are telling yourself - if you tell yourself you can't do something, you won't try very hard. In fact try very hard to get rid of the word "try" out of your vocabulary - it is giving you a perfect opportunity to give up. As Yoda said "Do or do not, there is no try"

Finally - what are other people telling you? People love to give advice, whether we want it or not. What are they saying you can't do, are no good at and why don't you give up now before you embarrass yourself. If you associate with these kinds of people they can nudge your good intentions off course, one well-meaning but totally inappropriate comment at a time.

So how do you counter all of the above.

Watch what you are saying to yourself and outloud - easier said than done perhaps but it is a good idea to "try" and monitor our own vocabulary at all times. Try not to associate with people who don't support you - but its interesting - most of the time they don't realise they are being negative (they often confuse this with being "realistic") so why not say, well I appreciate what you are saying, but I am going to ..... And avoid the gossip mags, tabloids and the news - I can't remember the last good news story item I heard, so I don't watch it anymore / listen to it or read it anymore.

With many thoughts

Motivational Tip – Money:
---------------------------
Any food you throw away is money wasted. Freeze any left-overs you can, these make great lunches or spare dinners when you are running late and tempted to buy “fast food” because you can’t be bothered to cook. But if you throw food away, which has gone past its sell by date, or you’ve got half eaten jars etc in the fridge – this too is money wasted. So before you buy anything else – make sure you are not throwing money away on things you don’t need to buy.
