Behavioural weather patterns

"Some people walk in the rain...others just get wet" I'm not sure who coined that phrase but it's very appropriate for our current weather conditions. Cloud bursts have become the norm and you would think most people were made of either sugar or salt the way they are carrying on.

It's water for goodness sake....you get wetter having a shower. Granted the water is a darned sight warmer and you don't usually get into the shower with your clothes on, but that's not the point. Most people assume they can't do things when it's wet, or there is snow on the ground or it's too hot.... or is that just the Perth, Western Australian people?

We can allow outside influences to affect our decisions, or we can simply work with them.

When I was in the Girl Guides - way back when, we went to an International Scout and Guide camp, young people travelled from all over the globe to congregate - about 4 miles from my house..... Typical. But like all camping in the UK (I migrated to Australia 14 years ago) in the summer, you could guarantee one thing - it rained. One night it rained so badly we got washed out of our tent. The following day we were delivered an Army surplus one which housed about 20 of us in the end... which we called "Saggy Annie) Interestingly enough - we "brits" had one side and the Irish girls had the other. But that's not the point. We still enjoyed the holiday with our overseas friends, we were invited over to the German Scout camp and enjoyed cocoa and Bratwurst, and the 10-pin bowling was a hoot when we all "worked out" how to get on the same bus and the same team .... it was even funnier when I managed to drop the bowling ball on my foot..... But it carried on raining, days and days of wet weather. Did we let the weather put us off our fun? Absolutely not, we ran around camp (a farmers field in Breedon on the Hill (1980) ) wearing cagoules (rain macs) t-shirts, shorts and gum boots.

And I've just realised this year it's the 30th Anniversary of that event and I can STILL see it, still see the guys and the gals, still know what we got up to (ssssshhhhhh - ok we did really bad things like we smuggled instant coffee into camp so we could have something more interesting than hot milk before bedtime).... innocent fun, brilliant innocent fun. If anyone else remembers Charnwood 80 let me know.

I'm not sure if it was because we lived in England where it rained most of the time anyway (or just seemed to ) - that I just get on and do stuff regardless of what the weather is doing, or what it is. I just know that I cannot allow the "weather" to affect my personal "weather".  OK I do get a little cranky when it gets over 40 degrees for more than a couple of days, my brain melts and I yearn for snow capped mountains, but if I want to keep on working towards my goals then I have to just get on and do some things, regardless of whether I am going to get wet or not, or hot or cold.

Do you allow outside influences to affect you and the decisions you make about your goals?

Why or why not?

With many thoughts
