Don't waste the weekends
When it comes to overcoming the procrastination habit and finding ways to motivate yourself to achieve your goals, you might be interested to know you always have spare time to use. You see it's usually not time we're lacking when it comes down to it, but our emotional state of mind at any given time.
- You say you're tired therefore you can't possibly
- You are worried about something or other
- You can't concentrate as a result of worrying (and more often than not, that "worry" is completely unfounded)
- You may tell yourself you can't do something because you don't know all the answers so you need to do more research - actually you don't, your emotional self is trying to get you out of doing something towards or more likely starting a project.
So - given that it is the weekend - what have you done so far?
- Have you given in to your emotional blackmail?
- Have you given in to someone else's emotional blackmail?
Weekends are a great way to waste time on things that don't matter, yet these 2 days and 3 evenings (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) are a great way of moving projects forward in huge leaps and bounds. I can hear the screams of indignation from here -
- But I've got to go out with my mates - do you? at the expense of not just money, but time as well?
- I've got to have some down time? - really? ALL weekend?
Life is balance I know and only you can decide if yours is in balance or not. But by taking a critical look at what you do during your "leisure" time you can perhaps see ways to harness a couple of hours extra a week to work on your goals. Bear in mind it doesn't have to be consecutive either - you can move projects forward in 5 minute slots if that's all the time you have.
- Define your true goals by defining your "wants"
- Don't waste the weekends on things that don't meet those "want" lists.
