Dream big to achieve big
"You have to dream big to achieve big"
Hayley Warner, Runner up, Australian idol 2009
What is interesting about Hayley is that she is still a teenager, but a teenager who knew what she wanted and spent all of her time thinking about it, but more importantly playing, practising and performing. The fact that she came second is (IMO) immaterial, because what she has achieved is massive. Whilst she suffered a few self-doubts in the "will they like me stakes" (and don't we all) she took a chance on her dream and it worked.
I feel you have to be so convinced that something will happen you have to be willing to go for broke, to burn bridges and boats so you can't go back. Do you do that with your dreams and goals or are you still standing on the edge deciding whether to jump or not? Well consider that some chasms can only be crossed with one leap.
What do I mean?
You have a business idea, but you also need your salary to pay the bills. You don't know whether you will have the time or the resources to build your business so you wait.
Please don't.
You can do anything you set your heart upon if you make the decision to do it. A friend of mine threw in a massive job to take the next step in her future, and it's not the first time she has changed states, changed jobs and careers either, nor will it be the last. I'm perhaps not as brave as my friend, I work full-time and run MotivateMe in my "spare time" amongst doing a million other things. But I too know what I want and I will get there.
Why can we be so sure?
Because we can "see" what we want to achieve, and you do need to "see" it to achieve it. By "see" we mean you know it's going to happen, you know what the end result is going to look like, you know what steps you are going to have to take to get there. Mine are sometimes small, but every small step takes me that little bit closer to acheiving my dream.
Homework time:
- What have you long thought about doing but wrote it off as being too silly, too way out there? And before you start with the objections - today there is a news report about a 13 year old boy who became the youngest person to climb everest.
So a final question - Are your dreams big enough to achieve?
