Training in the rain

I drove a different way to work today, I was early enough to take the long way in - so I did.... I'm very fortunate because that means I get to see the Indian Ocean. And before you say - blue skies, white sandy beaches - let me tell you it's a completely different story on a cold, wet and windy winter morning. The wild and rugged white topped waves were pounding the shore, birds hung in the air unable to move and grey storm clouds gathered overhead, but the streets and the coastal path were filled with people - exercising.

You can tell those people who are serious about their health and fitness, they're the ones who still cycle to work even though it's bucketing it down with rain (and they were). They have the wet weather gear for their rucksacks (so their day clothes are dry) and they get on their bikes and they carry on as if it were just another normal day - which if you think about it - to them it is. The walkers, runners, dog owners and a couple of early morning swimmers wading into the surf don't care if the sun is shining, the wind is howling, there is horizontal rain - they just get on and do what they know they have to do. Which made me feel a little guilty just sitting there watching them and the world go by. (And just so you know - I didn't pike on my own exercise today - I walked at 5.30pm and trained at 7 with Hilary of Efit121).

Is exercise such an ingrained part of your day that you will train in the rain? Or are you a fair weather trainer?

For me exercise has become an integral part of my every day. It wasn't always you understand, but I made a commitment to myself and my health that I would find some kind of exercise that I enjoyed doing, so it wouldn't seem like exercise. That way I wouldn't need to make any kind of excuses as to why I couldn't "work out". Motivate Me to exercise!! Not any more, the results I am getting are all the motivation I need and I can't wait for the next session.

And if you think about it, every goal - no matter what that goal is - should be an integral part of your every day, it should not be an after thought and something you do when you get 5 minutes or when you can be bothered. Goals need to be front of mind so you work on them, until such time as you don't NEED to work them - they are just part of your life, a habit you have.

* Can you honestly say that about any of your goals?
* What do you need to do starting today to make that happen?

This is fantastic.

I have actually started exercising daily and made a commitment to myself that no matter what I promise my body that I shall take good care of it :)

Thank you so much for this daily dose of medicine.

It is the best thing I look forward to in my inbox every morning !!
