The early bird
"God gives every bird a worm, but he does not throw it into the nest."
Swedish Proverb
When we talk about success we tend to forget that we may have to work darned hard to reach it.
I've spoken many times about the fact that there is no such thing as overnight success. What I've yet to find is anyone who finds success in their sleep. However, there is such a thing as being prepared to receive success.
How do we prepare ourselves for success?
I feel it is the same way we prepare for anything.
We think about what we want. We think, we plan, we find others to help us if necessary, and then we begin the process of acting upon those thoughts and plans. Each step taking us closer to our "overnight success". When we are aligned with our goals, when our actions work with us, rather than against us - then we are ready. What do I mean by "aligned" - if you think about it, it's that absolute point in time when all the numbers are dialled into the combination on the safe, all we have to do is take the step of unlocking the door (taking the right action at the right time). We know it will happen all we have to do is turn the lock.
Those people who whinge and whine about how hard everything is, are the ones who look for the shortcuts to "success" - they're the ones with the lock picks and the dynamite, those silver bullets and magic pills we joke about. These are the same ones who still believe you can lose 30lbs in a week, or you can make millions on the internet overnight with a 1 page squeeze website that is long on blocks of yellow quotations and little on how it can be done (whatever it is)...
Lets face it - The early bird catches the worm, but silver bullets are hard to find.
So - a question or two:
- Are you prepared for your overnight success? Then why not think about going to bed early so you too can catch your worm, because you do have to be - and the why is interesting (see point 3).
- What have you worked hard at - only to find yourself now getting to the point where you just wish there was an easy answer? Hint - now is definitely not the time to stop, throw up your hands and tell anyone who will listen that NOTHING works. Actually now is the time to dig a little deeper, because you never know what you will find in the morning after a good night's sleep.
- Do you count every success you have had or are you so intent on the bigger picture, long term that you've failed to appreciate what today is? I make a point of noting down every single positive that has happened to me - every single day. I can see where my overnight successes have been born by the comments I have made, days, weeks and months beforehand. Don't get so caught up in the long term you fail to enjoy today, after all - as we well know - there will only be one today, no other day will be quite the same as today, so why wouldn't we want to enjoy it?
With many thoughts
