Today's daily dose: Happiness is contagious
---------------------------
It can start with a simple smile, a door held open for someone who least expects it, a tip, or a compliment, but when you are happy it shows in everything you say and do, but more importantly - it shows in you.
You can't fake true happiness though, but you can see it when it is genuinely there and you will gravitate towards whoever is "genuinely happy"....as they will towards you when you are genuinely "happy". You must have heard the saying - s/he smiled but it didn't reach their eyes... that's what I mean, we can pretend to be happy and "smile" but genuine happiness is something that comes from within and spills over and touches everyone and everything.
Why is being "happy" good for motivation and achieving goals?
Well I know how hard it is to get motivated when I'm not in the mood, but when I am "happy" everything and I do mean everything seems so easy.
Unfortunately, happiness is not a destination - it just is....although there are some things you can do to help things along. I use music as my primary happiness generator (see the motivational tip below), but you might be able to tap into it in a myriad of other ways, the trick (IMO) is to find it on a regular basis - because when you do you can and will achieve many, many things. Rent a comedy, chat with a friend - preferably one who is also happy, enjoy the serotonin rush of a good workout, play with the kids, grandkids or the fur critters ... or whatever flips the happiness switch for you. Believe me when I say this - you will not only feel better, but you will look better too - and as I mentioned, you will move your goals on in leaps and bounds as a result.
With many thoughts

Motivational Tip: Exercise and Health: Music
---------------------------
Struggling to motivate yourself to exercise, clean, garden, go for a walk .... then use music. Are you old enough to remember Disco's? or is that just people of my vintage? The beauty of disco's are many - not least of which is this - it is extremely hard to sit still when there is a "beat" - your body will start to move, you will tap your feet and sooner rather than later you will be up and moving. I can't remember the last time I went "to a disco" but I do enjoy loud music - trance, techno, some punk, heavy metal - you name it, anything that makes your blood move. If you have ever wondered why gyms and exercise studio's use music - well that might give you a clue. Sometimes the faster the music, the faster you are tempted to move.
I've rediscovered my classic trance albums....it's really funny to sing and move along to the music when you are driving, especially on a monday morning when everyone else is sitting there, stone still wishing it was still sunday. The beauty about movement and it doesn't have to be a lot or big movements is this - it burns calories - but even more important than that - the "happier" the music, the "happier" you usually will be. So don't listen to banal drive time radio, find some catchy music and start your day off on a positive note.
