Today's daily dose: 27th September 2010: Spinning straw into gold
---------------------------
When you do more you always find time to do more.
Sometimes we get our biggest gains when we are busy, or as someone once said "on a roll".
Why?
I think it comes down to those kinds of days when everything works, you could spin straw into gold and find time to go and cut some more straw. We gain inspiration and strength from achievement, and those achievements don't even need to be massive for us to feel that we could go on forever. Does that make sense? I hope so because I have a confession to make.
I've been procrastinating.
Yes me - it happens.
I don't like gardening, in fact if truth be told I loathe and detest it. I like the end result of a nice garden, but I hate the process of grubbing through the muck dragging weeds / grass from the earth and returning a few days later to find the darn things are back again. My biggest problem has been the front garden bed. This bed was OK, until a storm a couple of years ago ripped out a couple of massive trees and it has never looked the same since. I've tried everything to clear it of grass and nothing has worked. My neighbors offered to get the bobcat in for me when they were re-doing their front garden, but there are too many pipes and other nasties to even think about that... and I could guarantee that when I did start I would end up breaking something. Well after months of looking at the mess I decided I'd had enough and started the process of clearing it again. Except this time I would weed mat and mulch as I went along - something I didn't do last time. But I also sprayed the ground with weedkiller - if you understand couch grass you will know it uses the runner system to propogate and it's a pain to get rid of (another reason why I hate gardening). And to make matters worse, the last 2 metres of bed contained a low growing bush that needed to come out because of the rubbish growing through it ... When I started the process a week ago I cursed and grumbled, and sure enough went through the pipe. More cussing ensued. This week I could see just how little was left to do and nothing was going to stop me from finishing the process. I even managed to dig out the bush - go me - and I am pleased to say that after 15 hours the garden bed is now finished and I can move on to more important matters.
Believe me when i say this - you can find inspiration from anywhere. But that stupid, single decision to clear that garden bed has given me the strength to do so much more. Today I am on a roll and looking for more straw to spin into gold.

Motivate Me to Exercise: Hydrate

Water is perhaps the most important thing to remember when you are training. Believe it or not, drinking too much water doesn't leave you bloated, rather it stops the bloating from happening. It also helps move things along in the intenstine department - if you get my meaning, so drink water and lots of it - if only for that reason. But when it comes to exercise, especially if like me, you sweat a lot you should consider upping your normal water intake to offset the amount you are losing through your pores.
If you find yourself running out of steam during your exercise session it may be that you are dehydrated, believe me it makes a massive difference to your strength, stamina and duration of your exercise routine if you are.

100 Day Challenge: Public Holidays
-------------------------------------
My to-do list for today:
* Exercise / Weight Loss: Personal training day today with Hils at Efit121 (http://www.efit121.com.au) - always good for a laugh and a lot of workout in half an hour. I am much stronger now compared to when I started with Hils. Today I managed to do one exercise quite easily that I couldn't even manage a single one of when I first started. I can now deadlift 60 kilos and my back which has always hurt (I usually suffer from sciatic pain caused by a degenerative disc in my lower back) aches pleasantly and I no longer get the shooting pain down my leg which is fantastic. The other thing I noticed is that I don't get as many migraine's - again the muscles are protecting the joints and my neck which I damaged and nearly broke in my early 20's can now stand the extra weights too ... so more than a few bonuses from doing regular exercise.
* Incidental exercise - gardening today was an hour of lawn (well weed) mowing.
* Ad-hoc spending - today is a public holiday and the weekend rules apply, so I enjoyed my cup of coffee today :-)
* Discarding 100 things gallery - http://www.motivateme.info/discarding-100-things/ - image has been posted
* 100 day challenge - blog posts - still need to write today's ... but you can find all the rest at - http://www.motivateme.info/100-day-challenge/
* Write and send the Daily Dose of Motivational Medicine - writing underway as you can attest to ...
Back to work tomorrow, so lots of house hold stuff happening including the making of gorgeous slow cooked lamb shanks for dinner.
How are you going with your challenges?
