Motivation is about focus

Today's daily dose for the 3rd September 2010: Motivation is about focus
--------------------------

Could you describe your goals to me in one sentence?

No I don't mean - I want to make more money, I want to own my own business, I want to ... insert other banal, bland over generalisation. I mean could you tell me what you want to achieve - EXACTLY?

It's like your elevator pitch, if you had the chance of the length of time it takes you to reach your destination - could you describe what you do in just a few moments? Good goal setting is like that elevator pitch. When you can be THAT specific you are going to achieve your goals. Why? Because you have the right focus.

Have you ever tried to construct an elevator pitch? Have you always thought how stilted and awful it sounds? Is yours too long?

Well there is a great resource, courtesy of the Harvard Business School that takes you through the process of crafting your own elevator pitch. Believe me it's fantastic (and you know I don't say that about too many things).

If you would like to learn how to craft your elevator pitch go to http://www.alumni.hbs.edu/careers/pitch/index.html

You'll be glad you did.

Let me know how you get on.
