Being thankful for the little things

I was speaking to one of our trainees today. He was justifiably proud of his achievement to date, though less than happy with having to achieve the goal in the first place.

Phil said he had spent 6 years sitting down, and after buying yet another and larger set of clothes he decided he had better do something, especially when a colleague asked him what he currently weighed. To not put too fine a point on it, they weighed him on a set of industrial scales and topped them at over 150 kilos. But that wasn't the only thing that staggered him. No - the real eye opener came when he stopped to watch 3 people lift a package weighing just a few kilos more onto the same scale. He knew he had to do something.

But that something wasn't drastic.

He made some simple decisions -
* he wrote down what he ate, and didn't like what he saw
* instead of catching the bus to work every day, the same bus that dropped him off at the office door, whereby he walked the 50 metres to his desk and sat down - he caught the train and walked the several kilometres to and from his desk
* he took the stairs instead of the elevator

and over a 4 month period has dropped a wonderful and healthy 22 kilos. He admits he still has a way to go, but he's hoping the newly refurbished gym at his workplace will allow him more opportunities to exercise so he can burn the fat and tone the flab over the top (his words).

Phil made the decision to be thankful for his health and the fact that his previous diet, while leaving him unfit and overweight had not done any serious damage, and he was young enough to deal with it. What can I say Phil, you are a legend.

Simple things. Nothing drastic. BUT MASSIVE DIFFERENCES.

A little while ago, I set a forum together to try and counter the amazing amount of negativity that is surrounding the world at the moment. If you haven't been over for a while, there are some wonderful examples of people being thankful for simple things. There are also some extremely profound things people are being thankful for every day. If you would like to add just 1 thing you are thankful for today - you can add your comments here - http://www.motivateme.info/tell-me-one-good-thing/

This of course is a timely message for those who are celebrating thanksgiving. Personally I prefer to be thankful on more than one day of the year :-D but it is a great idea to stop and reflect on what you do have, while you pursue everything that you wamt. And that is a good idea for everyone, regardless of where you live.

So my wish for you - is that everyday can be a happy and blessed one

With many thoughts

Elle
