Keep your promises
I believe it is all about integrity.
Otherwise known as "your word"
Others may call it "customer service" but the basic premise is the same. If you say you are going to do something, then make sure you do it. End of. It's not hard, in fact it is the single most simple thing you can do for someone else.
- If you say you are going to be somewhere at a certain time - be there, or at least telephone to advise you are going to be late. We can't always know in advance there will be roadblocks - but we can (with the benefit of hands free technology) ensure our clients know where we are, and haven't caused the issue in the first place.
- If you have nothing to tell your client, phone them and tell them you have nothing to tell them - it's polite.
- If you say you are going to do something, by a certain time, then surely it is up to us to make sure we can do that certain something by the time we say - or if you can't, then tell them... and then rectify whatever issue prevented you from delivering on time.
Jim Rohn said it best when he stated "there are no new fundamentals" he's right, the basic principals are always going to be the same.
Unless you have lived in a cave somewhere, you will have noticed we are rapidly approaching the silly season - and the arbitrary "end of year" when it seems everyone wants projects off their desk - and onto ours, and back again before year end. They want to have a rest over the Christmas and New Year period without the sword of Damocles hanging over their heads. But don't let their "deadline" impact on your integrity. And while you could point out that it was perhaps their inability to get off their proverbial rear ends, that caused their last minute rush in the first place, politely tell them you will do what you can - but not if it is going to impact on the quality of the job you are going to do. I'd sooner have quality, than a half-baked finish.
It is of course also the time of year when we seem to visit every single family member and friend - remember everyone is in the same situation we are, so again, if you say you are going to be somewhere, be there - after all, they will also have things to do, people to see and ...
I'm sure you get my point.
Now, my promise to myself is an early night, so I will bid you goodnight.
Speak soon
