Planning ahead is essential, but for goodness sake don't forget about NOW
I was on Twitter yesterday, and saw a post that made me want to laugh / cry / throw my hands up in despair. The post went something like
"What are you doing for Australia Day, we are looking forward to ... insert link to some event"
Me being me, couldn't resist being a little sarcastic - sometimes it is probably wise to think before one tweets - but I stand by this comment. I said
"I was really thinking about getting the easter eggs sorted before the rush.... FGS (For Goodness Sake) can't we enjoy Christmas first?"
Funnily enough there wasn't a response from the tweeter. BTW for those who don't know Australia Day is January 26th - and over 5 weeks away. Had I wanted to know what events were on that day so I could organise whatever tickets I needed then OK, it was a fair enough comment - but given they didn't actually say WHO they were going to see, just promoting their event - NO, NO, NO, NO and NO.
I do however, understand the need for retailers need to organise stock and promotions months ahead, so they can put the Easter eggs and Hot Cross Buns in the store on Boxing Day for those who want to buy them. I don't have to like it though and think it is a little sad, that we are being forced to think about consuming more, buying more, when all most of us want to do is enjoy the brief period of time we have been given away from work AND planning whatever lies ahead to enjoy being with family, friends and the items that we have purchased for THIS event.
So a plea, to everyone - yes, by all means plan ahead, just don't forget that you can't live your life constantly looking towards some event / time / happening in the future - NOW is all the time we have been given, so FGS enjoy the moment. PLEASE.
