Caught short
I was caught short today. I should have been prepared to wait, I should have had a notebook, a book, a pen - SOMETHING with me... but I didn't - silly really. I had half an hour wait and nothing to do except sit by a group of bins and wait for the shop to open so I could return something.
Why didn't I have those things with me?
Because
1) I thought it opened at 8.30am, and
2) I emptied my bag yesterday and didn't put them back - because I didn't think I would need them today.
But it's only half an hour, what can you do with half an hour?
Well it meant I couldn't get to the gym half an hour earlier which meant my workout was cut short. It meant I couldn't work on any of my writing projects. I couldn't for instance write and save this - I had to wait until I got home to do that. Seriously if you have a spare half an hour and you don't know what to do with it, let me know because I have LOTS of things that need doing.
When you go out - be prepared to be delayed and be prepared to have something with you to fill the waiting time. Those moments in the line at the supermarket, the waiting room at the dentist, even the line for the petrol pump on (slightly) cheaper Wednesday... you can (if you have worked out your current goal list) spend time working out the next steps, working on an application, you could write upwards of half a dozen pages of anything in half an hour - if you know what you want to say... and if you don't then you have time to work out what you do. Of course you could just use the time to clear your mind, to meditate, to listen to the kids argue - whatever - but don't be like me - caught short and then "worrying" about wasting precious time - until I mentally slapped myself and started working on clearing out the mental debris that was littering my thought processes.
With many thoughts
Elle
