Do just one thing better today

I often speak about why and how we should and can become a better person, but to most people that can seem like an insurmountable mountain they have to climb. Remember those mammoth New Year's Resolution Lists we write year after year and wonder why nothing is ever achieved. The reason I believe is because we try too hard to change too many things at the same time.

I am going to:

lose weight
give up the booze
stop smoking
redecorate the entire house in January
drop 10 kilos in 5 minutes
make 30 new client phone calls every day for the next month

or whatever happens to be on your list...

well today and every day I am going to ask you to do just one thing

and all I want you to do is this

Do just one thing better today than you did yesterday.

I know it is important to have long term goals, but it is the day to day challenges we face, the unexpected crashes that happen to each and every one of us - and most of the time, they happen every day - that we have to face. So just for today and for every day from here on in, I would like you to

Do just one thing better today than you did yesterday.

I liken this concept to the group personal training sessions we do at the gym. The trainers break every exercise down into 60 second slots. I don't know about you, but I CAN do something for 60 seconds... and that includes push ups and the plank. In fact right at the end of the 6am class today we did 2 x 60 second planks (bridges - resting on forearms and toes only) back to back with a 10 second rest in between. It hurt, it hurt like the blazes but we did it, because we knew it was for a finite moment in time. And that's all I am asking...

Keep an eye on your medium to long term goals certainly, but it is what we do day in, day out that will ultimately determine whether we reach those goals, and how fast we do so.

With many thoughts

Elle
