You could hear a pin drop

I bought my ticket to the Perth leg of the Dalai Lama's Australian World Tour back in February, in fact the day the tickets went on sale. I was not going to miss the event. I would ensure that anything else would have to work around the date, I was not missing it for the world. And over 14,500 other people agreed with me, in fact you could have heard a pin drop as he began to speak.

It is going to take me a while just to process what was said, because it was profound. It's not very often one gets an opportunity to meet (albeit at a distance) a living legend, a true prophet of our generation. A person of such humility AND humour - it's just a shame a lot more people couldn't have remembered his teachings as they tried to leave the carpark :-)

Why should I tell you what I did today, well there are a couple of reasons:

1. Don't get to the end of your life with regrets over what you should or might have done. Seeing the Dalai Lama has been on my "bucket" list for as long as I can remember. I am not a Buddhist, but I do attempt to incorporate the philosophy into my life.

2. Action is essential. If you want to go somewhere you need to buy the tickets, save the money, change your schedule, find a child minder - or whatever else you need to do to get there. You cannot THINK yourself thin. You can't say "i'll give up smoking" "call more customers" or anything else if you have no intention of doing the work. That is the beginning of delusion. What's worse though is thinking that's OK.

3. Guard your words and your thoughts carefully. Don't squander your thought processes on the negative, work out the steps you need to take, and if you really don't know, find someone who can help you, or pretend you are giving a trusted friend some advice - then take the advice.

And whatever else - life is to be enjoyed, so make sure you do - or else :-)

With many thoughts
Elle
