Today's daily dose:
---------------------------
A couple of weeks ago I had to go into the city to assist a client. The time it took to get there and back as well as the cost of parking for half a day staggered me - and we won't talk about the actual cost of the fuel I used in the process. Now it could be argued that I can (and will) claim the expenses back on my tax - but that's not the point... The point is, I could have caught public transport, saved myself the hassle of roadworks, grumpy drivers, wear and tear on the car, the cost of the fuel and parking - and saved myself a lot of money in the process as I found out when I did use the public transport system, when I had no other choice - other than walk - and to be honest it would have taken far too long to do that - even at the speed I walk :-)

You might say, but it takes you longer to get there on public transport - well that may be so, but I have spent many an unhappy hour or two stuck in traffic jams as I am sure you have. At least on public transport I can use the time to catch up on my reading or write my notes (with these new fangled electronic devices you know) - besides which - buses have priority lanes here *bonus*.

So a couple of questions for you:

   * Do you use a car / motorbike because it's convenient?
   * Have you worked out the cost of doing so vs the cost of using public transport?
   * How far is your average journey? I do travel a lot of miles with my work, and sometimes there would not be a public transport option. But say for instance if I needed to go to the local shops and I am not already out and about - as in, I will call on the way home, I will walk round and get whatever it is I need. Yes - even in the rain.

Be honest about the time it takes too, I was pleasantly surprised - at worst 45 minutes extra each way on the longest journey I have to do, to no difference at all on the shortest - which is something to think about.

   * What else do we do without really thinking about it?
   * What do we fail to do and think it doesn't matter? Tell me the name of the last book you read and when you read it? Anything longer than 3 months ago - and you and I need to talk.
   * Is whatever you are doing the best use of your time, effort and money or are there more elegant ways of doing things?

With many thoughts
Elle

100 Day Challenge update:
---------------------------
I would just like to say hello and very big welcome to all the new 100 day challengers, it is wonderful to have you on board.

Remember, the key to the challenge is to decide where you would like to be, come the middle of September, then work on each day as it arrives. No more putting off until tomorrow because today is all we have.
24 hours.
Subtract the time you spend sleeping, getting ready to go to school / work, travelling time, time at school and work, travel time home, dinner prep and eating time = not a lot of time left.

Don't believe me - a simple test of the theory. Get a blank piece of A4 paper and some pencils / crayons if you have them. Mark the paper into 4 columns and 6 lines. Each square becoming 1 hour of your day. As you go through the next couple of days, colour in the hours you spend (and write over it what you were doing if necessary)... what is left is all the time you have left over to spend on your goals and challenges. Yet these few precious moments are usually squandered in front of computer games, facebook and TV. It's up to you of course whether you keep on doing what you have always done, but if you want to get more out of the next 100 days you will need to make a few changes.
