Space... the final frontier

If you are constantly surrounded by noise you will struggle to get anything done...

Noise is a distraction, sometimes welcome if you are unsure of next steps or don't like whatever it is you are doing. But when you know what you want to do but can't get into the right kind of head space because of the distractions that surround you, then it is time to make space for your dreams to take shape.

But how do you find space?

Walk - Get out of the house and walk, go early if you have to, but get out and find solitude and peace in walking... The same can be said for most kinds of exercise if you do it on your own. Exercise for me frees my mind and I can do the mental filing which helps me to put things into the right perspective. Without exercise I struggle to remain focussed.

But what if exercise per se isn't your thing? Well we do still have public libraries, and it's important we use them given the many threats these are under at the moment. Plug yourself into your headspace that is your music and enjoy quiet time surrounded by the wisdom of the ages...

I'd say the same for coffee shops but most of the ones I know are usually packed, good for them, not so good for anyone who needs to find space... but it's up to you, sometimes that kind of noise can be tuned out if you try hard enough.

My mum is over for a holiday at the moment and her favourite spot is the chair in my office space and she does insist on filling the air with inane chatter that usually goes nowhere which as you know I am just not used to... what can I say, as much as I love my mum dearly I do say thank goodness for netbooks, wi-fi and a bedroom that sits at the opposite end of the house.

And - if all else fails, I use earplugs.

Where do you find space?

With many thoughts
Elle
