Mustn't grumble
"Within you right now is the power to do things you never dreamed possible. This power becomes available to you just as soon as you can change your beliefs"
Dr Maxwell Maltz
I've had a massive dose of what can only be deemed as negativity over the last couple of weeks. I'm not sure if it's just the English per se, or just the fact that my mum now lives on her own most of the time ... but the
"musn't grumble"
"can't complain"
and a million other phrases that slip easily from her tongue makes me wonder if that is why I used to struggle with motivation.
It's not that she thinks she is being negative either which is the interesting and for that, scary part, it's just part of her normal vocabulary, which of course got me thinking about the people who we associate with.
* Do the people you associate with most of the time make you want to do more - or less.
* Do they make you happy or not?
* Do you enjoy spending time with them because they encourage you to do more, try new things or are they the kinds of people who think the world is constantly falling?
And what of your normal speech pattern? How can you tell if it is filled with positives or negatives? Well the first trick is to listen to what you are saying, no I mean really listen. The second and most important part is to not only be mindful but to choose an alternative word to the one you would normally use... it does take time, but you can do it... Of course if you can associate with people who happen to be naturally positive then all well and good, as for mum, I've suggested the same to her ... fingers crossed it works.
With many thoughts
