Life is what you make it
"We cannot avoid life by not facing it. The more you face it, the more energy you create"
Sylvia Sims, The Young Ones
Have you seen the program "The Young Ones" - no, not The Young Ones, but "the young ones" - The basic concept was to take 6 "famous" celebs who are now in their 70's and 80's and put them back into 1975 - and the time when they were in their heyday. The reason being, these 6 people had suffered everything from strokes through depression - but were willing to undertake a week in the house to see if they could turn back time.
The BBC stated:
"Could it be that we have the power to think ourselves young again? That’s the extraordinary claim of an experiment first conducted 30 years ago which the BBC re-staged."
The results were staggering. The power of mind over matter was played out over and over again. People who had relied on sticks were walking unaided. One lady was running down the garden complete with 2 dogs in tow. I am seriously in awe of what was shown and proven - we do have the power to do whatever we want to do, all we have to do is believe we can, even if we don't believe it in the beginning.
So my question to you, well several
What would you do if you thought ANYTHING was possible?
and perhaps more importantly
Would you be willing to give it a go?
My mum is over from the UK for a visit, we are taking ourselves and her grandkids (my kids) to Alice Springs and Uluru in a couple of weeks, a gift from her father, he couldn't make it, but gave us the means to do so "thanks pop". My mum is partially sighted, her knees are dodgy and she's carrying a bit of excess weight due to steroid treatment. Monday we "trained" in Kings Park. She wanted to prove to people who told her she couldn't do it that she could... so she climbed the DNA tower, and back down again (of course), we walked over the federation walkway, up the Law Walk to the top of Kokoda and down the 153 steps, across the kilometer to the base of Jacobs Ladder and climbed the 242 steps up to the top of Jacobs. I did leave mum to make her own way (very independent is my mum) and ran up and down several times once mum was ok with what was going on, and did some training while she took in the sights... At the end she said "well that was OK, and they said I couldn't do it ... what's the next challenge"...
So today we walked the bridges... about 12 kilometers, thank goodness i'd bought some tiger balm for her because her knees did complain afterwards ... She gets a day off tomorrow (i think shopping in town with my daughter) and then ...
Friday we head to New Norcia and in 2 weeks time we climb Uluru. Not bad for a 70+ lady who sometimes can't see a damn. And what is even more remarkable she is trying to get my aunts (both of whom have lost hubbies in recent times) to be brave and get out and about, and they're both of sound health... go mum.
How about you? Are you going to let life get in the way or are you going to give life everything you've got?
Oh and sunday we're going to walk in the hills, let me know if you want to join us. Bring water, an apple and a positive attitude - kthxbai
With many thoughts
