Today's daily dose: 17th August
---------------------------

STOP, be still and listen, for in the silence lies our dreams

When was the last time you stopped?
Turned off your phone
Left the computer switched off, the television unplugged and the radio un-tuned?
When did you last take yourself away from the noise of a typical family home, work place or the chatter of friends and acquaintances and find silence?

You may call it meditation, time out or anything else for that matter - but it can be hard to STOP and simply listen to ourselves "think" especially if we aren't in the habit of doing so. And if we aren't in the habit of doing so I can almost guarantee you one thing, you won't be thinking about dreams and goals, but usually on your next set of tasks / jobs that need to be done. The trick (if I can call it that) is to do it regularly - Stop that is and listen to yourself "speak".

How?

Well the only way I've found which works for me is by walking. I walk and I walk alone. And I usually walk without music or other distractions.

I use the first half of the walk to do my mental filing. Everything that needs to be considered and contemplated. Any problem I have running through my head before I start is usually much clearer after what I call my walking meditation. Once that is completed and there is no hard and fast time / distance for this to be done, I can then allow my mind to wander. And it is when my mind is allowed to wander that the true insights come, which is why you do need to STOP and listen on a very regular basis.

But do whatever you need to do, and like I said it needs to be something you can do on a regular basis to allow your mind chance to relax enough for you to be able to hear that small glimmer of hope, that voice which murmers - but this isn't what I wanted to be when I grew up... your time outs will allow you to reconnect, and I feel it is vital that you do. So, please, find time, find space to find that small part of you that said "now this is what I wanted to be when I grew up..." because only then will you be able to move with purpose towards the real dreams you have.

With many thoughts

Motivational Tip: It starts with a decision
---------------------------

Most people would say it starts with an idea or a thought. But lets face it we are bombarding ourselves with hundreds of thoughts and ideas every day. It's not that we don't have ideas or thoughts, it's that we sometimes forget to make a decision.

But:

Once you have made a decision, have you noticed how things just start to happen. We can move mountains once we decide that is what we are going to do. How do you move a mountain? One shovel of dirt / rock at a time. But the clever people use at least a wheelbarrow, the VERY clever get a team of people with earth moving equipment to help out. But it starts with a decision that today you ARE going to move a mountain.

Don't get stuck in the day to day dreaming that says "one day I'm going to ..." make today the day you make the decision to start.
