A word of encouragement

We can be our own worst critic, we tell ourselves we can't, we give every reason why something can't be done ...

Today I would like you to do something different.

Imagine that you were giving encouragement to a good friend, but that friend didn't have access to a telephone or any of the social media sites that proliferate our lives these days... yes we are talking about the old fashioned way of communicating with people ... face to face or by letter.

Well given we would probably be locked up if we started talking to ourselves, I would like you to write a note of encouragement to yourself instead... Thinking back over the last couple of weeks, I would like you to think about all the good things that have happened, all the things that could have gone a little better and I would like you to say so... words of encouragement that you would give to a friend or even a stranger. Words of encouragement that you may not even think about giving to yourself and I would like you to say so. Write it down. It's an interesting exercise - focusing just on the good.

And if you could hand write it, even better.

The reason for handwriting is simple - Once you have finished writing it, I want you to post that letter to yourself... put it into an envelope, stick a stamp on it and put it into the mail system...

Once you get that letter back, for those in the US you may have to borrow another person's mail box, but you know what I mean, then save it for when you are feeling a little discouraged, then open it and read it...

Sounds a little strange perhaps, but believe me it works. When you read how proud you are and what you have managed to achieve so far, well, what better proof do you need that you are on the right track to better things.

With many thoughts
Elle
