Be still and listen
In our hectic, ever connected worlds it can be hard to find peace and quiet to connect to the one thing that really matters - us.
Why should I make such a bold statement, am I saying that we should be totally indulgent in our own needs over the needs of everyone else?
Actually no.
You see if we are forever running around, answering the demands placed on us by work, family, friends, obligations and commitments, we will never be able to find that inner place that we need to find, if we are to find our creative voice.
And we do need to find that inner place that makes us - US. That is the place where we write the best poetry, or paint a wall, or plant a rose garden. Where we can be the person we need to be, so we can handle the demands of everything and everyone else.
When was the last time you sat so still and actually listened to what was going on around you? But let me state at this point, i don't mean you could hear the music on the radio (in the background), the kids typing on MSN, the kids from next door or the cats running around like maniacs, I mean those times when you could actually hear yourself "think".
Some may call it centering, others still may call it meditation, personally i call it grounding. It's actually better if you can sit or lie on the ground to do this, but anywhere outdoors is best. Where you can lean against a tree, feel the sun warm your face or the wind rifle it's fingers through your hair. Your mobile phone is off for a change, and you are safe and secure in your own world. It may only be for a few minutes, but if you're anything like me it will take a little while to actually switch off the jumble of thoughts running through your mind. But don't panic if you can't stop them running around like a child high on sugar. As with all things it takes time and practice, but it is so vitally important that you do take the time to ground yourself.
Go to your special place and spend some time, see how much more refreshed you are after some quiet time. See how much more you can actually achieve. Given enough time practising the art of sitting still and doing nothing, you will then be able to create some of your best work. I can almost guarantee it.
With Many thoughts,
