Challenging your thinking
Information can come from anyone, at any time or anywhere.
We listen, we watch, we filter the many sounds and sound bytes of text, images, touch and smells and file them for future reference. Use them immediately to enhance our position (when you are being chased by a wild animal the last thing you need to do is spend too long weighing up your options). Or discard the information as being of no value or use.
And the way we do that is based on our current educational levels, our attitudes at any given point in time, our ego’s and the person giving the information to you.
It is important then to be open minded to the fact that you may not know ALL there is to know on a certain subject. You may think you know more than other people, but that doesn’t mean you should discount some one else’s thoughts on the topic.
The problem with challenging your current way of thinking (and doing) is that it is very uncomfortable – which is why most people prefer not to think. Or think they are thinking, when all they are doing is re-arranging their ego’s, attitudes, prejudice and bias.
But if you are open minded to the thought that perhaps you don’t know it all, then – try reading something that makes you question, you can’t just read “inspirational” stuff. You may be inspired – briefly, but you’ve got to add those thoughts to your actions in order to benefit from the information. Speak to people you’ve never spoken to before. Watch a different type of movie, or television programme.
Only when you are willing to challenge your current thinking will you overcome the procrastination habit.
