Clothes maketh the man (and woman of course)

I know I've asked this question before - but me being me, i'm going to ask it again.

When you woke up this morning, were you excited about the day and what was going to happen? Or were you wishing for another couple of hours sleep? I was listening to a really old song by the bangles on the weekend (just happened to come up on the radio) "Just another manic monday" and it did make me laugh - isn't that how most people live - "wish it were Sunday, Because that's my fun day."

How sad is that? That you're only allowed to have fun on one day of the week? Every day can be a fun day if you allow it to be. Sure we have our share of serious jobs that we have to do, you know policemen, firemen, the armed forces, doctors, nurses, morgue attendants - and goodness knows I couldn't do any of those jobs, but just because the job is a serious one, doesn't mean to say you can't enjoy what you do - otherwise why would you want to do it, day after day?

The more I study people, the more intrigued I get. I especially love Monday mornings, seeing people on the way to work. No-one I saw this morning had a smile on their faces, yet the day was beautiful, the sun shining, birds singing, not a cloud in the sky. Yet few people had taken the time or made the effort. Unwashed hair, creased and dirty clothes, shoes that didn't look like they'd seen a polishing brush - ever. Out of the 3 dozen or so people I saw this morning, only 2 looked like they were going to enjoy the day. One was a distinguished looking gentleman, and the other was a lady....long iron grey hair, scalp plaited. Yellow jacket and black pants. Yes she carried a bit of excess weight, but she looked very elegant, and very confident in herself and her abilities.

How about you, did you dress as if you were going to make a difference today, or did you decide "this will do, it's only work after all."
Well my question for you today, if you had to re-apply for your own job (and yes it happens regularly) would the clothes you have worn today, and the attitude that you are carrying around with you - do you more harm than good in your chances of re-gaining your job?

Ooops! I think I just shot myself in the foot at interview! Nice post!

Thanks Chris but I hope you really didn't shoot yourself in the foot. But if the interview wasn't as good as you hoped, well at least there is a learning opportunity for you. And the good thing about WA is that there are more jobs than people at the moment tho'.

Have a great day

Truthfully I did long for an extra 10 mins in my comfy bed - but later I picked up my camera to take to work in case there was something really special I wanted to capture.. spring flowers, cockatoos grazing, sun streaming through the olive leaves.. another beautiful day in Perth! Thanks for your daily thoughts.

Now that is something straight out of my own heart. My trusty digital camera has captured everything from rally drivers, through returning olympians and boats docked in the harbour at fremantle. If you can call The Rainbow Warrior and The QEII boats of course. Those crazy moments that we may miss if we are always in a hurry.
Thanks, Elle
