Do something completely bizarre

Ruts - if you do the same things in the same way, virtually every day - then not only do you have a real problem with your habitual behavioural patterns, but you're also stuck in a very wide trench - otherwise known as a rut.

Before you jump up and down and whinge at me, I do know that some thing have to be done at certain times - namely sleeping, eating breakfast and getting ready to go to work etc... but there is still scope for change and more importantly fun.

Why is doing something fun important? Well, if you do something you enjoy you will put in the effort. Conversely - If you do something you hate, you will procrastinate and put it off forever. You will drag your heels and like a child not wanting to go to the dentist, will complain bitterly.

So today I would like to lay down a challenge for you, for this weekend. Or at least the next weekend, depends how much planning and effort you are willing to put into it. And how many friends and acquaintances you have.

OK, the challenge is - organise a themed party - could be breakfast, could be brunch, could be a teddy bear's picnic - and yes everyone would have to bring one - a teddy bear that is.

So, pick a theme and then create the invites, get people to bring a plate of appropriate food stuffs so that you don't have to do all the catering and away you go.

We hold at least one a year - called "because we can" parties - because we can, because it is fun, because it forces me to think about who, what, where, when, how and who will enjoy it. I've had adults crawling around on hands and knees building card houses - and they got to take goody bags home - a kids party for adults. We even made up new names and professions for them so they had to make up their back stories to fill in the gaps...and yes they had to stay in character for the entire event. Being someone else just for an evening....imagine being told that you were a world famous musician - would you still be willing to sit on the side lines or would you be the life and soul of the party? How about a mountaineer - telling the story about your climb to the top of Mt Everest! Or a model - strutting your stuff. We had a drug baron (Poppy Seed) and a High Priestess (Hellen Damnation), a pilot (Ayr Force) and a campinologist (Annabelle Rung), amongst many others.

Doing something completely bizarre helps to break the ruts that we find ourselves in, and the momentum can take you onwards - because you could re-live the memories, the fun and the laughter.

So my question is - are you willing to accept the challenge?

Thanks Amy, I'll post some of the photos from the last one - in fact a midnight feast - which started funnily enough at midnight. We timed it for Halloween too, and asked people to come appropriately dressed. Pumpkin soup, mulled wine and lots of very tired people. Great fun
