Do you resent being told to change?

Most people do not like being told they have faults, and certainly they do not like being told that they need to change their habits and behaviours of a lifetime, even if they know deep down that the person is right.

We're all like that.

There are several things that can happen at this point.

We can get embarrased (depending on what we're being told is "wrong" with us)
We can get angry (How dare you tell me I need to.....have you looked at yourself lately?)
Or we can take the advice, however badly it is put to us and we can look at the suggestions objectively and decide whether we are going to implement any of them.

If you have ever been on the giving end of this kind of advice. A word or two of caution.

We all have our own set of reference points. These reference points are based on many things, namely - culture, upbringing, religion, political and social beliefs and what we are thinking at any particular point in time. In most cases, it is an opinion, nothing more or less, unless the person is arguing black is white, or the earth is flat. We all have a "what's in it for me" criteria that needs fulfilling.

So when offering advice and suggestions, or indeed receiving those same things. Remember this - only we can decide whether we are going to change, and how big those changes are going to be. Only we can decide whether to look at things from someone elses point of view or our own. Only we have complete power over our own thoughts and actions.

With Many thoughts,
