Don't stop now
It can be very tempting to give up sometimes, especially when things are just not going as well as would like.
Have you noticed when there has been no movement on the scale how tempting it is to eat that piece of cake or bag of chips. You tell yourself "Well the diet's not working so I might as well eat what I like."
"I've tried to make the relationship work, but..."
"I'm making lots of telephone calls but no-one wants to buy."
"I'm training hard, but I'm not getting any faster."
"I'm studying hard, but I can't seem to get the results I feel I should be getting"
Whilst I say that you should not stop now, you should take the time to re-evaluate what it is you are doing. Are you really studying, or are you spending more time on the telephone or the Internet than reading your books?
Are you pushing yourself as hard as you did when you first started training - you know - when you woke up the next day stiff as a board and it hurt to move your arms? Yes, that kind of feeling. Are you pushing yourself to the limits of your lung capacity or do you tend to cruise if your trainer isn't there?
Are you still following your new healthy eating plan properly, or have the portion sizes increased just a little?
So before you quit, make sure you aren't sabotaging your own efforts first. And the second part of this is - do something different today. Jump rope rather than cycle to warm up, take dance lessons rather than run. Drink twice as much water as you did yesterday. Give yourself a mock exam or get someone to "test" you.
You see, when you have been doing certain things in a certain way for a certain period of time, your mind tries to cut corners. It doesn't need to "learn" how to do something anymore so it stops trying. It also has a nasty habit of seeing what it wants to see rather than what is actually there. So change your routine and you will re-energise your mind. And once that has happened, well anything is possible.
