Focus on what you can do now

Can you imagine being given a piece of paper on the day you were born. And on that several hundred mile long piece of paper were lists of things you had to do, places to go and people you were supposed to meet. How do you think you would be able to cope - knowing that that's what life had in store for you?

Would you wade in with both chubby feet and teeter off to the first item - "make a million dollars"

Assuming you haven't been born into a family of famous actors, or television producers I would say it would be extremely difficult for you - as a new born to be able to make a million. And that's just the first item on the list.

So why do we as adults expect that we are any better off than that newborn? Chances are going to be good that most of you reading this haven't seen a bank statement with that many zeros on it. Especially one that belongs to you.

So if "make a million dollars" is on your list, unless you have a fantastic "million dollar idea" and you know every step that you need to take in order to bring that million dollar idea to fruition, something tells me you might have to modify your short to medium term goal strategies.

You see if you sit on your butt all day doing the same things in the same way, then how are you ever going to make a million. You'd be lucky to make a living at that rate.

So - take a good look at your daily actions, are they taking you towards those long term goal strategies or are they not? And if you know they are not - then what are you going to do today to change that?

You see - if you focus on what you can do now, rather than on the list of a zillion items on your birth "to do" list you won't get dragged down by the sheer weight of what you are supposed to do with your life. You can tackle each tiny step as it is presented to you. And like the baby learning how to walk, talk, eat and dress - we can grow into our respective roles.
