From A to B or here to nowhere
Setting a goal and achieving it or not comes down to a few simple things as you know by now, but to use a bad travelling analogy - getting to your goal is determined by:
1. How well you plan the route in advance
2. How much time and effort you are going to put into the journey
You see if you knew that achieving your goal was as simple as marking out two points on a map, then deciding which road you want to take, well assuming that you follow your directions, you will get there. It is up to you whether you choose the scenic route, the side roads or the highway.
None of the ways is wrong, just different. The difference being, the amount of time and effort you have to expend.
Now imagine that you wanted to achieve a goal, but you didn't know where to start from or where the end point was going to be, you wouldn't know which road to take, nor how long you were going to be going on your journey would you?
In reality most people's goal setting is like the second scenario. Well I sorta kinda would like so and so, you know one day.
With that kind of self talk in goal setting is it any wonder you have no idea what your goal is, let alone how many days/weeks/months you are going to have to spend in order to get there. Is it any wonder most people drift off to other vague plans, wishy washy dreams and anything else that takes their fancy.
Consider that if you had a definite plan, you could still take those detours and side roads to check out the cool stuff on the way, but you still know the end point and you would have no problem getting back into your journey. But those people who are wandering through the hedgerows of life, simply scratch their heads, pick a direction and ....
I'm sure you get my point.
Set goals, set end points, and be prepared to check out the cool stuff on the way that we forgot to plan in advance and you have the basis for achieving any goal in life.
