if only

The perennial whinge - if only

If only life were simpler
If only I had more money
If only I had more energy
If only I were thinner, healthier, sexier, smarter, good looking
If only there were no bills to pay
If only I could win the lotto
If only
If only
If only (fill in the blanks)

Every time you utter the words "if only" you are admitting that you don't have enough, or feel that you are not good enough as you are, right now.

If only

Amazing aren't they, those two words. They immediately signal your brain and your non-conscious thought processes, your body slumps, your mind starts to run over and over the same things.

The more you focus on the "if only" the less likely you are to improve your situation and the way your life turns out.

So what can you do?

Well I wish it were as simple as deleting the words "if only" from our vocabulary. But now you have acknowledged the words as being in your vocabulary you will start to notice when you speak them or just as importantly "think them".

For those of you who are adept at the practice of watching what you say to yourself and stopping the thought processes that allow the words to surface, I would like you to try and gather up those two words and stuff them into your personal recycling bin. What do you replace them with? Well a simple thank you is a good start.

Thank you for the challenges I face at the moment, they are making me a stronger person. If life were simple, then it would mean that i wasn't growing or changing.
Thank you for the bills i receive, as it means I have a house in which to live.
Thank you for the opportunity today to eat well, to exercise, to tell my love ones that I do love them, after all some people never get that chance.

Thank you.

Two of the most powerful words in the human vocabulary, and we forget to use them. So today all I ask is that you replace the "if only" with "thank you" and I can guarantee you will have a much better day.

Thank you for sharing my day, thank you for taking the time to read this, thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my own personal brand of philosophy with you, thank you for being open to the possibilities that today can bring.

Speak soon.
