Make some better decisions
You could have made a million wrong decisions, but that does not mean you need to continue making them.
Every day we are given a brand new opportunity, it's a cliche perhaps, it also happens to be true. Every day we are given a new chance to make some better decisions than those we made yesterday.
Some bad decisions are easily recognised:
too much alcohol last night usually means a hangover this morning
too much of the wrong food choices over a period of time and you could be carrying some excess weight around
not enough exercise and your skin and muscle tone will be slack and flabby
spending too much time at the office and your home life will suffer
spending too much time pretending to work and your performance review will not be very good
and then there are the not so obvious bad decisions we make:
we're angry at the kids because they have't done their homework, but they see you sitting on your butt in front of the television drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes and hanging out with your mates. Two things - do not deal in double standards - don't expect people to do their homework if you can't be bothered to do yours. The second point is - do not deal in double standards. Yes I cannot make the point too many times. We are being looked at and we will be emulated. Do you want your kids to be miniature versions of you - hiint - they are - now - are these miniature versions of you, the kinds of person you want them to be? If not then you are going to have to change your decisions and behaviours first so these little people have something good to look up to.
We dress badly, we don't take care with our appearance the way that we used to. We figure that we have the job we want, the partner we want - so we don't need to make a good impression any more. We don't care if somedays we didn't leave ourselves enough time to have a shower before going to work, we throw on the clothes we wore yesterday, douse ourselves in deodorant and perfume and stagger off to the office.
We have dishes in the sink and laundry waiting to be done. Our homes are like toxic waste dumps, we cannot find anything, so we don't do those things we know we need to do but can't find amongst all the clutter.
We associate with people we know we shouldn't associate with. They're energy vampires, they drag you into situations and places you know you shouldn't be in. Sure their influence may be subtle, but day by day we become people we were never meant to be.
Every decision that you make today will impact on the next set of decisions that you are faced with. But the results of those decisions may not be noticed for months if not years down the track. As one cartoon writer put it - Doctor to overweight patient. "Do you want to spend one hour a day in your busy schedule exercising, or would you like to spend 24 hours a day - dead."
Today is the day you can start making some better decisions.
