Pretending you are on a first date
Do you have a significant other? Have you been together a long time and think you know everything there is to know about them? Or are you still learning what makes the other person tick, their likes, dislikes, taste in music and / or chocolate?
Have you noticed that as you move out of the "honeymoon" phase of a relationship, things tend to slot into patterns. You do the same things on the same days and in the same order. Patterns of course is another word for habits. Now I am not saying that we take our partners for granted, although some of you may do, just that we have become used to doing certain things at certain times with our partners.
Do you still take as much care in your appearance when you see your partner, or have things slid - just a little? OK, Ok, I can hear the mumbling from here....who has the time to get ready, put on makeup, do their hair...we've got kids screaming round the house, the dog needs a walk, the house needs cleaning.... it's alright for you.
Well I'm not saying that it's going to be easy, just something to think about. And isn't that what overcoming the procrastination habit is all about? Thinking about things in a different way and trying one or two of the suggestions. I do know that this is not a one size fits all kind of strategy, but - you will always find time to do things that you really want to do. And yes that is one thing I truly believe in.
So, a few suggestions:
Flirt a little. Do you remember thinking about the person ALL THE TIME? It seemed to be all you ever did, I'm amazed I used to get anything done sometimes. Did you write love notes, send cards, or in today's technologically driven society - send an sms or email during the day just to say "I love you, you know!"
Set the dinner table and get out the best china and glass ware. Sit down to dinner as a family if you are blessed with little people, or tuck them into bed with a story and a smile, so you can enjoy dinner. Hint, play some "soppy" music and your teens will be off like a shot.
Don't save your best perfume / aftershave for some point in the future...use it now, if you're not careful it will have evaporated by the time you come around to using it (assuming your teens haven't aqcuired it first that is).
Get the cookery books out and try something a little different, you know - like you used to.
What happens then? Well I can almost guarantee you will have one of the best days you've had in a long time. You will smile, you will make the effort, and when you make the effort in one area - ie., planning dinner, you will feel more like cleaning the clutter from the dining room. As you may have realised - once you start moving things in one area of your life, you will begin to see changes in all aspects of your life.
Have fun
:-)
