Rose Coloured Hindsight

Our minds are amazing tools. We have the power within ourselves to be just about anything we want - if we want to put our minds to it.

We also have the ability to recall any event from our dim and distant past, we can embellish it "it (the fish) was THIS BIG".
We can make any memory more vivid than it actually was. We can see it all and relive it all in glorious technicolour detail.
We also conveniently forget about the slightly minor problems that also went with the memory if we want to. Of course there will always be someone who remembers all the bad bits rather than the good bits. But humour me here for a moment.
You remember the rainbow rather than the rain.
You remember the butterflies rather than the mozzies.
You block out the angry words and focus instead on a happier memory.

We do it all the time. And that's what we call "rose coloured hindsight."

The beauty of this though is that we can make it work for us. We can take any memory that we have and embellish it, relive it and our minds and our bodies react in exactly the same way as the first time we encountered it. You see our minds cannot tell real from imagined, truth from fiction.

But how can this be made to work for us?

Well think back to a time when you were extremely happy. It might have been the time you got a promotion, or the baby was born. It might have been the moment when you had saved up enough money to go and buy whatever it was you so wanted. Now go back to your memory and add a few new details. Add a couple of thoughts relating to your current goal list. Translate those thoughts into images and superimpose them onto the image you already have. Yes it's make believe. But if you want it, you have to be able to see it. If you can't see it, you need to spend some time and fine tune the image. Make it clear, rather like tuning the radio into a new station. You know when it's a little fuzzy around the edges. So make it clear, make it vibrant, make it alive to you.

Use your road coloured hindsight, it's one of the best techniques you can master, and once you start doing it, you will begin to see those new things start to appear. You will know what new steps you need to take in order to "get" it.

So get into your memories, it's a fun place to be.
