Speak Clearly
Imagine that you are on the telephone to a customer. You are asking him a series of questions about his desire to purchase - lets say a brand new car.
But the answers he gives you are so vague that you have no idea what sort of car he is after.
Well it's got to have 4 wheels and a boot (sic trunk)
Yes sir, most cars have those. What model would you most like to look at.
And a steering wheel, it's got to have a steering wheel and a decent stereo. Oh and it's got to be purple with black striping.
OK sir that narrows it down a little. Do you need us to sort out the finance for you?
Most people's goals are like that "purple car with black striping" - a little vague. Whilst the colour is a definite, the rest - well it could be anything from a bus to a mini.
Once you know what you want, you will be able to speak clearly, there will be no vague
"oh well you know - I'll know it when i see it"
Nor will you mumble. Mumbling means you don't know all the details and directions you need to travel, you will speak with purpose and you will speak clearly. It's amazing how focused you can be when you know what it is you want.
So my question for you as you go about your day. Do you always speak clearly about what it is you want, or are you prone to mumbling?
