Use your imagination

Imagination is a wonderful thing. We actually use it all the time, in a myriad of different ways. This relates indirectly to your thought processes. But is entirely different, if you stop and think about it...

I know irony.

Imagination allows you to see a 5c coin and know that it is much, much more than a simple 5c coin.

For example, it can be used as a screwdriver,
stuck on a frame with a few others to make a decrative edging to a picture
it can be sewn into the lining of a curtain as a curtain weight
or discarded as worthless

When we begin to use our imaginations properly, we begin to see things in ways that we had never contemplated before.

A pen is only a pen if you need something with which to write.
You may consider that your current job / life boring, but consider that it is only boring because you haven't learned the art of seeing what you haven't noticed before.

Do you remember being a child? Do you remember playing? Do you remember building cubby houses out of sheets and blankets in the middle of the dining room. Do you remember lying in this cubby house and pretending that you lived in a mansion in a special location, where you had everything that you wanted or needed?

Well that's what your imagination is, and can still do for you if you want to play. Why should play be important? Well why not, it formed part of our lives as were growing up didn't it? Some of the older generation who surrounded us, kept telling us to "grow up" - personally i think those two words are the worst ones to use with children. We created our worlds, and nothing was impossible as children. We knew what we wanted and we did what we needed to do to achieve it. That's why imagination is so important.

Our thoughts form part of our imagination, they are not the be all and end all of our imagination. Our imagination is the bit that remembers being small and enjoyed the process of playing.

If you followed yesterday's advice on being still, today I want you to be the complete opposite, and I need you to play. It could be as simple as building a house out of cards, or getting the scrabble board out when you get home. Or you can use your imagination and find something to play. Now remember I am not talking about "adult" age games. But playing on the swings, flying a kite, nicking your kids bike or roller blades and making a complete fool out of yourself. Life is not meant to be 24/7 drudgery. Life - as far as I am aware is a one shot deal. So why shouldn't we have a ball whilst we are here.

You may be wondering why this is important in breaking the procrastination habit....

Well it's important for many reasons, not least of which, doing something completely out of the ordinary, out of character, out of order, starts to break the habits that surround us. We are creatures of habits, we are worse creatures of bad habits. Get out the finger paints that form part of your creative imagination and have some fun. Because if you are having fun, you won't be bored, you won't procrastinate about starting, in fact you will hate to stop, you will be having so much fun.
