Where do you keep your good ideas?

Do you have scraps of paper littering your desks, notebooks or notes on the computer? Or do you rely on your memory?

Writing down your good ideas is essential. It helps to cement those thoughts and you can then make a judgement call as to whether those good ideas are worth pursuing or not. Now it doesn't have to be words on a page, it could be a sketch of something you want to create, a torn off piece of magazine that you've glued onto card. What does need to happen though is that you need to put those thoughts, those ideas, those scraps of paper where you can refer to them on a regular basis.

And believe it or not, your memory - on it's own is not the best place for it.

I know I have said in the past, you need to see something in your minds eye in order to bring that "thing" to existence. But we have so much crammed into our minds, it can be difficult getting past the gatekeeper ego, the task list and the guilt to actually develop those ideas beyond something more than a flickering image.

Writing it down, and then going back over those things on a regular basis gives your non-conscious mind something to focus on whilst your conscious side is busy handling all the routine stuff that you need to do.

So get in the habit of carrying a note book, or using some form of note taking facility on your computer - but it has got to be something that you will refer back to and refer back to it often.

I have several places I put things. I have a box sitting on my desk for pictures, images and things that I would like to have or own. I also have a what I call a 'day book'. This goes with me everywhere and contains notes, thoughts, book ideas, quotes and lines from poetry. It's also the place that I have my to-do lists - "Remember to buy the ceiling paint, and a masonry drill bit". "Move money to the savings account" "Write to Rachel" (it was her birthday btw)

along with my medium range goals that I want to achieve.

Turn spare room into sewing room.
Acquire a sofa bed and tailors dummy.
I was also going to purchase a proper sewing table, but when I mentioned it to someone, they offered me one they hadn't used in 5 years....sometimes you just have to voice the need and yes, sometimes you will receive it.

Then I use the computer - especially for work related projects / ideas. As you know I use Yahoo for my mail. It's free and I can use it from anywhere - but rather than clogging up the inbox, I use the save as draft feature, which allows me to make a note of what I needed to do, once it is written down and saved I know I don't have to worry about forgetting to do something.

Once written down you are more than likely going to achieve whatever it is you are wanting to do. By the way - if you have win the lottery sitting at number one on the list - add, buy lottery ticket as the second item, and fetch lottery ticket as the third....
fourth - keep fingers crossed.

Write it down, reflect, write some details, reflect some more, work out the steps you need to take / do. It's amazing what you can get done, when you know what it is you want to achieve.
