Who / What are you waiting for?

Do you find yourself waiting for other people? They're never on time for appointments, they're late for meetings, they're late for dinner, they say they'll be there at 8.30 and 9.00 turns around and they're sauntering up the path.

They appear to have no respect for their time, so are quite happy to waste your time as well.

Yes we can get annoyed, but at what.

How many of us can honestly say that we are on-time, all the time? Hmm - not many hands going up that I can see.

Now there are a couple of things to look at with regards to time, yours and those people you feel are holding you back.

1. Always do what "you" can - right now. Don't wait for other people to show up and take part. You could be waiting an awfully long time.
2. Re-connect with your time log. If you haven't kept this before - there is a spreadsheet in the downloads and free stuff section on the website. Mark down what you did and when. If you are waiting for someone, write down who, why and what you could have done instead of sitting there fretting....sorry (Fret is an english word for worry). If you haven't kept this in a while, I would recommend that you do so for a couple of days, a week day and preferably a weekend also. But you have to be honest - otherwise what's the point?
3. If you are a manager and are being delayed by colleagues - they don't turn up on time for meetings for example - then start without them. And don't play catch up when they do walk through the door. Make the minutes available afterwards.
4. Don't be shackled by yesterday, what you did last week, last month or even what you did a minute ago. It cannot be changed. Your mistakes and your glories are all in the past, so leave them there and get on with living today, now.
5. Don't put things off - don't wait for the kids to leave home, don't wait until tomorrow to start the new eating plan, don't wait until you've eaten all the food in the fridge - you'll only have more weight to shift once you start. See - point 1 - do what you can - now.
6. If you are waiting for inspiration to strike you could be waiting a long time.

None of this is rocket science, but if you wait for others to join you - I can guarantee you will always walk to their pace, not your own. Set your own pace, your own standards. Don't try and beat other people, but make it a habit to try and better yourself. Others may decide to follow your example, or they may never start - but that's up to them. Don't wait for others to decide on how much you can do each day, only you can determine that.

Go on, get back to work
