writers write, painters paint
It sounds like a statement of the blindingly obvious doesn't it. But humour me just for a minute.
I am a technical writer by day, and I write "other" things when I get the chance. But I would always, always class myself as a writer first, trainer and educator second. Of course when my children were little, I was "mother" first, second and everything else came in at last place. But they're growing now and need my input a lot less.
So how do i actually fill my days?
Well if I am working at work (and sometimes I do work from home) then my day is mapped out into a series of projects and goals. Website to look after, a technical manual to edit, a range of newsletters to produce, training courses to market. The list is endless and never boring.
But when I actually get time to write my own things, what happens? Well other things tend to get in the way. Sometimes it's important, like picking up the kids, supervising homework, dishes, feeding the creatures and the kids, exercising and occassionally I get to sleep too. And what of my writing? Well that comes a very poor second in most cases. I consider myself to be a writer, yet I spend most of MY time not writing.
As you may have gathered by now, I am working on me, just as much as you are working on you. Life is always happening, changing and we need to adapt and change otherwise we will look up and find that everyone has moved on and we've been left behind.
But my questions for you today, are:
1. If you had to use one or two words to describe who you really are, what would they be?
2. And are you actually fulfilling that description of yourself?
Because if you are not fulfilling that part that is YOU, you will always have conflict in your life.
So, who are you really and are you living that life properly?
And once you have worked those questions out, then you need to decide are you willing to sacrifice the real you for one that you don't really want to be? As always food for thought.
