  • 365 Thank Yous: The Year a Simple Act of Daily Gratitude Changed My Life
    by John Kralik

I found this book by chance in a book sale. Since then I've bought many copies and given them as gifts and suggested reading items for people who are struggling to know why life has dealt them a bad "hand". Well Judge John Kralik, found that when he started being grateful for what he already had, he got what he needed.

Why don't we say thank you for the gifts we receive? Why don't we say thank you to people who make our lives easier? Perhaps it's time we too started being thankful for the things we already have, that way, we too may get everything we need.

This one should be on everyone's must read list.

    Thanks John.

  • It's Not About You: A Little Story About What Matters Most in Business
by Bob Burg, John David Mann

A second business parable from Authors Bob Burg and John David Mann. Ben, a young manager charged with persuading five hundred employees of a struggling chair manufacturer to get them to agree to a merger as a way out of their financial woes. Facing what seems like an impossible uphill climb, Ben seeks the advice of Claire, an old friend, who introduces him to an eccentric elderly lady known simply as Aunt Elle. (Hmmm makes me wonder if they were talking about me :-D )

If you haven't read the Go Giver, I have to ask why not? If you are in the business of being in business, that book alone can make the biggest difference to the way you think and work. With this second book, they add just that little bit more.

  • The Angel Inside: Michelangelo's Secrets for Following Your Passion and Finding the Work You Love
    by Chris Widener

One of my go to books when I need inspiration.

"According to legend, when a young boy asked the great Renaissance artist Michelangelo why he was working so hard hitting the block of marble that would eventually become his greatest sculpture, David, the artist replied, “Young man, there is an angel inside this rock, and I am setting him free.” In The Angel Inside, the renowned consultant and career coach Chris Widener uses Michelangelo’s words to explore the hidden potential that exists within us all."

What are you hiding inside you? What needs to be set free so you can soar?

  • The Go-Giver: A Little Story About a Powerful Business Idea
by Bob Burg, John David Mann

I'm going to have to buy another copy of this. I made the BIG mistake of lending this to someone, and it's follow up "Go givers sell more" - what can I say, but next time - buy more than 1 copy at a time :-/

It is a truly fabulous book and one I highly recommend. If you only read one book this year - then this has got to be it. Remember my post "the pumpkin test" well that was written as a result of reading this book. Love the inspiration that comes from reading a good story.

  • What Can Chief Executives Learn From Stand-up Comedians?: Fifty essential skills top performers perfect and you can learn
    by Roger Edward Jones

Roger Edward Jones, one of Europe's foremost leadership experts, theorised that business executives could glean more than humor from the best stand-up comics. And what better way to test this premise than to give it a try? And so he did, at one of London's comedy clubs, and came away with his ego intact and the platform for "What Can Chief Executives Learn From Stand-up Comedians?"  - a straightforward and highly practical approach to optimum management performance. In a book that juxtaposes a comic's tools-of-the-trade manifesto with the qualities needed to be a highly effective and goals-oriented leader and communicator, Jones covers such diverse objectives as preparation, brevity, originality, the use of personal vignettes, and the importance of candor. And, of course, the key to comedy and top management, which is timing.
