Stuck energy? Then get cleaning

How do you feel today? Are you feeling energetic and ready to tackle those little problems that life may throw at you today? Or are you feeling a little less than enthusiastic for the tasks that you have to do?

My second question for you this morning is this – what does your current environment look like? Is it clean and tidy, or is your work environment a snowstorm of papers and “stuff” that you haven’t got around to putting away yet? And what of your home? Is it littered with the debris of last night’s dinner and dirty laundry? Or is it a harmonious environment that is full of light and energy?

If I were to hazard a guess, those of you who responded with the negative, probably have an environment that is “negative” too. It doesn’t always follow of course, but as a general rule of thumb, negative environments have what I call stuck energy. This negative or stuck energy can manifest itself in many different ways, but I feel that an untidy work environment can be detrimental to your creative health.

If you lack motivation then I would suggest that you take a good look at your environment. And if you believe in the concept of energy as something that moves, then it should also stand to reason that energy could get stuck. As a person who “sees” concepts, I now have this image of the energy whizzing around the place getting worked up because it can’t move around properly.

So to add to the thoughts we have already have considered so far this morning, why do we “spring clean?” We throw open the windows, wash the blankets and get the winter coat dry-cleaned? Why? Because we feel the need to remove the build up of the winter months, and the energy that has stopped whizzing around and settled on the people, the furniture and the clothing that we inhabit.

Are you the kind of person who prefers to stay in doors during the cold months? I have to admit there aren’t many people who enjoy getting cold and wet (unless you’re into snowboarding or surfing). But consider this – I bet you feel far more invigorated after you’ve been for a walk – to “blow the cobwebs away” than stuck in front of the tv watching cop shows, drinking too much and eating because you’re bored.

Now the following may sound like I am giving you permission to procrastinate – but I do feel that if you don’t clean up your environment and give it a breath of fresh air (energy) then your procrastination tendencies will continue to stick with you. And if you are willing to give it a go, then regardless of the weather – make time to go out and get some fresh air. You are neither sugar nor salt (in other words you won’t dissolve if you get wet) and your energy will thank you for it. Of course there is an added bonus of burning off a few of those extra calories you’ve just consumed too.

You may be wondering - Do I practice what I preach? To coin a phrase – absolutely!! Unless I am sick (which isn’t very often) I walk for at least 30 minutes every lunch break during the working week. I also like to walk (or run – depends on the knees) at least three times a week during the evening, and for regular readers of this column they will also know that I go to the gym at least three times a week too. I have found that if I don’t I sit at home watching too many cop shows and eating more than I need!!
