Getting the house sorted one job at a time.
My mum and sister are heading down under in a few weeks. Talk about major panic mode. I'd already re-painted the spare room during the year and had it re-carpeted. But that was it. What should have been a spare bedroom was fast becoming the dumping ground for everything we didn't know quite what to do with., and things I'd acquired and needed putting up.
And then I made a decision - and found a handyman with a bit of spare time on his hands, and the work to make the house, neat and tidy began. Cat damaged blinds were removed, curtain tracking was put up, curtain making began, a piece of coving I had damaged was replaced, gaps were filled and all of a sudden the house and the jobs list were in unison. Each small item - 10 windows, 10 curtain tracks, locks, cupboard cleaning were all crossed off the list as they were completed.
It's easy to keep going when you can see the results happening literally in front of your eyes. In fact you want to keep going, long after your body has said - you know what - my back really hurts and it is time to stop now. No really it is. You get disappointed that your body can't keep up with your mind and all the plans it has. You go to bed exhausted, but wake up at a ridiculously early hour of the morning to start again.
Motivation is a very personal thing. What motivates one person may not motivate another and what motivates you today may not have the same impact tomorrow. But I do know the best motivator of all is seeing the goal coming closer and closer. And tomorrow, mine comes a whole lot closer still.
