Motivational benefits: A Child's Perspective
Motivation is easy if you can see the benefits.
We're amazing creatures, capable of so much - yet sometimes we forget that. We also forget that sometimes we have to make a concerted effort over many days, months and even years before we see the results. By which time of course most of us have gotten bored and have slumped into a stupor on the couch.
I needed to get certain jobs completed before my mum and sister arrived. So, as you know I've been doing some serious work on the house. Well one of the black holes was my sons bedroom. Teenage boy and very untidy. But I laid down the challenge. Rather than just say endlessley - you need to clean your room before nanny gets here - I offered him a reward. Clean your room, empty it of the junk and the stuff you don't need / want / use anymore and you can graffiti it.
Well he started cleaning and tidying, but I knew it would take a bit of mum help to get him really going. Well between us we moved him into the spare room and emptied his room - making good use of the space in the shed to store those important but not essential items. And he worked hard alongside me to get the job finished. Not a whinge, not a murmur - he just did exactly what was asked of him. Move this, carry that, do this, do that. Awesome.
The room is now empty - and I've taken pictures of the beginning - and I will take pics as the project progresses and you can see what we've been up to.
Find the benefits and you will find your motivation...of that I am convinced.
