Losing weight - eventually: Day 31
End of Week 1 I had managed to lose 1.8.kilos
By the end of week 2 I had dropped a total of 2.4 kilos
End of week 3 I had added to my total weight loss by a whole 200grams making 2.6 kilos weight loss in total.
End of week 4 I could have given up when my weight went back up by 600grams. Thankfully we are not relying on a single measure to track my progress. At the end of 4 weeks other changes were happening. I had managed to lose 8cms from my girth and 2% body fat. The lack of weight loss on the scale could now be put into perspective.
Losing weight isn't easy. Putting on weight is far easier, we just eat what we want when we want to and overnight we can gain back what had taken weeks to remove. So how do you keep going when you think you are failing miserably?
As I said i could have given up and admitted defeat. My emotions were in tatters and my hormones were screaming. But I didn't because I knew that success could be just around the corner. Sure enough end of week 5 I had added a 2.4 kilo weight loss to my tally, taking my to a total weight loss of 4.4 kilos for the 5 weeks.
The combination of eating properly and doubling my exercise for that 5th week made all the difference to my weight loss.
Now into my 6th week on the program, I can feel a difference. My clothes are much looser, my waist line has reappeared, I am sleeping better, I have a bit more energy and my strength has improved. The next couple of weeks I feel will be telling.
Losing weight: So what has worked?
Following the diet almost to the letter. I didn't think I ate too much - how wrong can a person be?!
Exercising at least once a day. Walking first thing, walking every lunch time regardless of the weather, longer walks on the weekend and 4 x 30 minute gym sessions / week. That and not giving in to temptation, ignoring my rumbling stomach, drinking more water, having a more regular sleep pattern, the support of my partner, great personal trainers, and a determination that says I WILL DO IT.
Weight loss: What hasn't worked?
Weeks 3 & 4 I ate a few too many nuts and yoghurt - which just goes to show that even eating the right things in the wrong quantities aren't good for you. That and not doing as much walking during those 2 weeks - hence why I stepped up the rate, the distance and the frequency after that.
