Motivate myself to clean
Saturday morning - the start of a weekend of cleaning. It's not spring down under, just feel the need to reclaim some of my living space from my offspring. They have tv's etc set up in their own rooms but insist on using the main television for gaming purposes. This is all very well but it means that when I do want to watch some television or listen to music via the surround sound I can't. Teenage kids.
So my weekend of what should be writing is being spent on hands and knees getting to grips with cables, dust and debris....but the first phase is now over and I can legitimately stop and have lunch.
How did I motivate myself to clean today? After all it's a beautiful day outside, nice breeze, would be a fantastic day at the beach - but - sometimes the house and garden does have to take precedence over pleasure. As I tell the kids, homework first, then pleasure - so today I really am doing HOME work first. And the answer how did I begin - well to be honest, I got up, showered had a cup of black tea and began. Picking up stuff, moving it to respective rooms, and slowly - shoe by fallen sock, the house is coming together. I still have to consider cleaning cupboards and drawers, but for today the surface is clean and that's a good start. As with all things, once you can begin to see progress, you are more likely to continue.

The HOME work clean up is progressing quite nicely. I've moved away from the main part of the house into my walk in wardrobe (closet) and have started removing old clothes that don't fit, folding, sorting, tidying those that do, and giving away ones that I have not worn in a very long time to people who will find a use for them.
A word about clothes - if they don't inspire you to wear them - get rid of them. If they don't make you feel good when you have them on - get rid of them. If you look awful when you put them on - throw them away and wear something else. It doesn't matter what size you are, there will be clothes that make you look good and feel better, so find them and put them on. It's amazing how much better you will feel as a result. Of course if you could do with losing a couple of pounds to make them sit a bit better, then consider upping the exercise and doing some work. Whilst you can't spot reduce your problem areas, the extra exercise will make you look and feel a whole lot better about yourself.
Oh and finally, if you are keeping clothes - just in case you can get back in them....be realistic, are you honestly doing whatever you need to do in order to get back into your clothes or are you HOPING you will one day get back into them. If it's the latter - get rid of them, or put them into a suitcase and forget about them, we need to deal with reality not day dreams. It's good to have a goal, but you still need to take ACTION. Motive + Action = Motivation.....
