Reasons are the reason between doing more or less with your life

The council is collecting green waste from our area this week. We get 2 general rubbish collections per year, and 2 green waste collections. This is the time when people will chop down their entire gardens and stick it on the front yard for collection....well that's what it looks like anyway. Normally I will do enough weeding to fill my bin each week, but with a green waste collection - I've been collecting boxes. They're on the front yard now, full of weeds. The winter rain has watered the dormant weed seeds and boy do they enjoy this time of the year. It only took an hour and a half, but we managed to fill half a dozen boxes....and cleaned the area that we were going to re-plant next. Actually it's never been planted, straggly bits of grass that gets scorched in the summer and weed ridden in the winter.

So what will grow through a hot perth summer - apart from cacti? Well believe it or not, there are lots of options, namely native species, and spiky things - grasses etc. So that's what it will be, a native garden. And thanks to the green waste collection were were able to clear the entire area in one day - a task that would have taken weeks of one bin at a time.

As we removed the carpet from the spare room so that we could decorate - it will be replaced BTW - i've put it onto the garden to stop the weeds coming back before we get chance to plant and mulch. By which time the next general collection will be happening and it too can be added to the front yard.

So why am I telling you about my weekend gardening activities? Well a couple of reasons - because I can !! and because it has a couple of important things to consider. Some projects can be moved forward one bucket of weeds at a time. But you can get more done if you have a deadline, and a reason.

What reasons do you have for doing stuff? The more reasons you have, the more you will achieve.
